My Recent Travels …

I had a whirlwind couple of weeks and as much fun as that was .. it sure is nice to be back on my own kinky home turf!  I’m finally unpacked, mostly caught up on my mail but am still a bit sore from some of my wild adventures.  <grin>

Here is a brief synopsis:   I spent a week on NCL’s Breakaway Cruise ship that included three days in beautiful Bermuda! A very dear friend had originally booked this trip to travel with someone else but the plans changed and she asked me if I’d like to tag along!!  Like umm Wow!  The cabin was on the spa suite level that included a Jacuzzi in the room, access to the ship’s spa, personal butler service, and access to “The Haven” that included a members only pool & hot tub area as well as private dining in a peaceful and elegant atmosphere, away from the crowded buffet lines and dining rooms.  She had also booked the Vibe private beach club which allowed us into to a private adults only oasis on one of the upper decks.  It was a truly elegant and glorious week!

We spent the first few days at sea enjoying fine dining and several of the great shows that were offered on board: Burn the Floor, Rock of Ages, a Cirque du Soleil dinner show performance and two Second City comedy shows (one of which my friend was called up on stage and came out with a few lines that even made the cast blush).

One of my favorite performers played in the Fat Cats Jazz and Blues Lounge; Les Getrex and the New Orleans Creole Cookin’ Band. Les, also known as “Big Pappa played a great mix of tunes and we checked him out at least three out of the 7 nights!  He’s awesome! I like him so much in fact I picked up all three of his records from his website.  🙂

While on the cruise I also did the Image result for ncl breakaway ropes course pic“ropes course” that they offer which included an opportunity to “Walk the Plank” which was a bit of an adrenaline rush as you step out 4 feet off the side of the ship as it is sailing at whatever speed it is doing and the winds are whipping by.  Yes, ok there is a safety rope, but umm wow .. that was still a bit of a rush let me tell you!

When we were docked in Bermuda, my friend and I decided to pack in as much fun as we could manage so we went on a bunch of different tours: “The Aquarium, Caves and Highlights by Taxi” was great fun although it was tough to hear our tour guide “Mama June”.  I highly recommend the Crystal Caves – amazing! We also did the Wildcat speedboat tour around the island – woof! Fast paced fun!  But the “Gosling sunset rum cruise” was kind of a drag .. it was basically one long infomercial about Gosling Rum.  Not my idea of a good time.  But Horseshoe beach was stellar!  Perfect day with perfect waves on pink sand beach!  While there I climbed up and grabbed a geocache from a pretty high vantage point that had a breath taking view.  It was a really wonderful week full of delicious mix of luxurious pampering and fun, exciting adventures!

I came home from the cruise on the 11th and then after having barely 24 hours to sleep in my own bed and visit my kitties I was off to Long Island to join my niece on a three night trip to Cancun Mexico to stay at the Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort!  Wow I LOVED this place!  Not only was the resort beautiful and immaculate, with a really friendly courteous staff, excellent food (that included all I could drink which honestly is not all that much – I’m not a huge drinker) but I also got to swim with Sea Turtles, climb the archeological ruin Coba, zipline over a wetland that has alligators in it, and snorkel and swim in several bodies of water: ocean inlet, an open cenote, and an underground river in a cavern!  It was a total blast!  (Can you tell I definitely enjoy adventure travel?  – lol!) My sweetie and I are already looking into going back to this fantastic resort early next year!  I can hardly wait!

As for sharing pics: I had some photos taken on board that I may share with you at some point, but many of the photos taken from both trips include selfies of me and my friend & niece whom I do not want to post here for obvious reasons.  For now here is a good size gallery.
